Last weekend we hosted our very first lingerie society sewing retreat. The venue was the beautiful Mercure resort Gerringong, one and a half hours south of Sydney.
People came from as far as Melbourne to socialise and sew with like minded sewers.
The weekend kicked off with a cocktail party Friday night in the hotel court yard by the fire. Amazing canapes and the wine was flowing, as was the lingerie talk!
Nieves took out the best dressed in me made in a very Great Gatsby inspired ensemble, taking away a $100 voucher to spend on the weekend
After a lovely buffet breakfast we headed to the terrace room to sew!
The terrace is a great size room, with a big work space for each person and room to set up our shop for supplies. Natural light abounds and the view is nothing short of spectacular!
There were varying levels of experience at the retreat, which made for a lovely forum to chat, share experience and knowledge.
Everyone was very productive on day one, with lots of lingerie sewn!
We re grouped after a short break for a dinner in the hotel restaurant.
The food was again amazing and the conversation even better.
After another sumptuous buffet breakfast we met in the terrace room for our second day of sewing. This is where we really knuckled down and made some great progress!
There was a lot of sewing, a lot of chatting, and many cups of tea! Which made for an absolutely fabulous weekend. So much so that we are doing it all again in November!
This sounds great. What pointers can you give to a novice (not a novice sewists) on how to setup a retreat. Do the attendees bring their own machines and supplies? As the organizer, do you set a specific project that everyone works on and do you have kits for purchase that are distributed at the start of the event. Would like to do one here in my home-beautiful Bermuda. Many thanks Harlean Saunders-Fox
